With your trade rights and non-aggression pacts with boarder nations you can safely focus on taking the hostile Latium faction out, then turn on the final Latium faction that likes you to consolidate the three provinces of Vei, Latium and Roma.ДЇor the small faction in Latium that you have trade rights with at the start (the one that likes you), cancel those after you take over Vei to the north as eventually youвЂ™ll want to conquer them to unite Latium and you donвЂ™t want the diplomacy hit by attacking a faction you have an agreement with.ДЄfter this you will have three full provinces and friendly relations with your neighbours. Take out the Vei to the north quickly (first few turns), then concentrate on the Latium faction that hates you to the south. Sometimes factions are not receptive on turn 1 but after 2 or 3 turns in the early game you should be able to establish relations with most of them. I am disappointed by CA going for adolescent epicness with heroes, monsters and magic as I would prefer more strategy so I still play DEI, Shogun 2 and sometimes Medieval 2 although this game becomes pretty easy after a while. I am already a long-time total war player (started with Shogun 1, the one where battles feature cut-out paper figures sliding along weird textures), looking for and more challenge in these and I have a few hundred hours on DEI.

If anyone has contextual tips, they are very welcome. I could switch to an easier faction to get better used to Rise of the Republic but I came for the challenge :) Again, the annoying province mechanic is most often playing against me as allies soon turn out to be either pebbles in the shoes or Damocles knives. It is now my third attempt and I am trying to play it smarter and more careful but geese (say it like Mr Garrison) things are really tough to balance. I could have tried to keep on playing since Rome has a specially tough to capture main settlement but my neighbours were already looking like they were on the rise. I only managed to capture one or two other settlement before having my main army destroyed.

I really like it but I may need to try it on a lower difficulty first in case no one has good advice on how to deal with so many neighbouring assholes and relatively poor economy. I googled around but I think not many have tried and reported playing Rise of the republic with DEI. I thought I would play it hard with normal battle difficulty but the game proves to be very challenging. I bought the DLC for cheap recently and gave it a try with DEI.
